Invasion

Invasion was a 'seizing the media' event held in Portsmouth more than 30 years ago. In the heady days before widespread use of mobile phones, internet access and well before social media. It was inspired by the many DIY culture events of the early 90s, especially the ones held in Oxford. The event had a few parts, 1st up, a mail art project and exhibition of the work, then there was a live 2 day 'seizing the media' event in Portsmouth. This was essentially a creative workshop where people could come and use a variety of resources; computers, photocopiers, paper and glue etc. to create 'media' to disseminated across the city. This mostly manifested as flyposters and billboard détournement. This zine is the document of the event. In the spirit of the event it's a low quality production, photocopied, then adorned and individualised with stickers, things sent in for the mail art exhibition, and rubber stamps.
There was a version of this document that had a hard card cover. It also had a snap from a Christmas cracker attached to the opening flap, however it was deemed to troublesome and dangerous to send out, and remained a prototype only.
