A proof reader's art

A long time back I picked up 28 Amendments by Astrid Stavro, Pablo Martin and Nick Asbury. A wonderfully simple idea, well executed. Amend the word using proofing marks to make it all better.

As they put it:

28 Amendments is a series of positive changes we would like to see in the world.

Each change is expressed as a single word or phrase representing an issue or attitude.

In each case, marked changes (a playful take on traditional proof-reading shorthand) suggest a small but radical shift in meaning.

Some changes relate to the world at large; others relate to the role of designers in shaping a better world. We believe that design has a central role to play in society. And words have a central role to play in design.

The words we use define the world around us.

By changing the words, maybe we can change the world.
